2021 Year in Books
Well, it’s been another weird year. Not having lived through a global pandemic before, I had no idea things could go on this long. I haven’t been able to travel much, but did get away Thanksgiving time to Quebec, Canada for a few days. I also finished my student teaching and teaching certification this year, which is really exciting! Currently waiting for my permit student-teacher permit to be converted to my teaching license so I can start working.
As for book news, I’m happy to say I reached my Goodreads challenge this year of reading 60 books!

I’m already in the 8th week of my student teaching and only have about a month to go! School is going well and keeping me busy. This weekend for Halloween, some of my friends and I are going to Lunarfaire, a witchy sort of Renassaince Faire in New Jersey for their Halloweekend celebration. I really want to get back to regular blogging again. I love seeing what everyone else is reading!

I’ve been super busy with student teaching, but I’ve been trying to squeeze in some reading in the evenings. So many good books are releasing in the second half of the year! I’m especially excited for Naomi Novik’s sequel to A Deadly Education and C.S. Pacat’s new Dark Rise series. If you haven’t checked it out yet, check out my Most Anticipated YA Reads of 2021 (January-August). What books are you guys most excited about that come out this fall and winter? Here are some of mine…

Things are going well here. I did a bunch of shopping in the last week to get ready to go back to school. Our house had some leaks from Hurricane Irma and our basement flooded a tiny bit. The roads were crazy though! Broken down cars and flood water everywhere! We’re supposed to have another flash flood this evening from Hurricane Larry, but I’m hoping it won’t be as bad. I had my first week of student teaching this week! It’s been really fun getting to know all the 6th graders at my school. I’m excited to teach and learn from them.

I had a wifi-free week last week, visiting Cape Cod with my family. It was nice to get away – one of my first vacations since Covid started. Ate a lot of seafood, went to the beach, read, and relaxed. We came back early on Saturday because of the impending storm on the East Coast. Wasn’t too crazy here though, just two days of rain. Been slowly getting back into things – went to school on Monday and Tuesday to get settled in, but won’t need to go back for student teaching for another week. Today, I’m finally getting around to my laundry from vacation…and catching up on emails. How’s everyone else’s summer been?

It’s definitely been a minute since I updated! I thought I’d have more free time come summer, and while that’s true, I underestimated how much I would just want to rest. I worked at my school summer camp last month, which was a blast, but also exhausting. My old car from 2003 also finally gave up, so I was on the hunt to lease something. I finally decided on a white Volkswagen Tiguan and I’ve been really enjoying it so far. Other than that, it’s been a relatively uneventful summer, hanging out with my friends, working on creative outlets, making and jarring jam, and catching up on my Goodreads challenge. How are all of you? What have you been up to this summer?

It’s officially pride month and it’s time to do a roundup of my pride picks that release this year (2021). I love that there’s such a diversity of representation in Young Adult LGBTQIA+ books. Every year, it seems to get better, with more and more books with gay, lesbian, bi, trans, queer, intersexual and asexual characters. I even read a Middle Grade LGBT book (Thank A Lot, Universe) this year! This is in no way a comprehensive list, but here are some books I’ve read or plan to read in 2021!
