Angels – unknowable, powerful, beautiful – they’ve long captivated my and others’ imaginations. They have been depicted in many ways throughout time – from chubby-cheeked cherubim to ageless creatures with long flowing locks and feathered wings. Angels can be messengers or avengers, guardians or monsters. For today’s photo prompt Friday, write a story or a poem about an angel or angelic being.Continue reading “Photo Prompt Friday: Where Angels Fear to Tread”
Photos and images can have a weight or a weightlessness, a heaviness or softness. How do you convey weight (or lack thereof) in writing?Continue reading “Photo Prompt Friday: Ethereal”
In honor of the month of MerMay, I thought today’s photo prompts should be inspired by the Merfolk. Alternately thought to be alien, strange, beautiful, dangerous, dark, alluring and mysterious, these creatures of the deep have long inhabited the human consciousness. In fact, the earliest legend of mermaids was recorded in Syria in 1000 BC…Continue reading “Photo Prompt Friday: From the Deep”
There are some places in the world that seem too beautiful to be true. They’re more like locations in fantasy books than naturally occurring phenomena on our planet! Try to incorporate some of these elements into your next story.Continue reading “Photo Prompt Friday: Unbelievable Natural Landscapes”

Portals between one world and the next or even dead ends. Doorways can be invitations or, as with some vampire stories, obstacles. Doors can make you feel safe or fill you with dread…Continue reading “Friday Photo Prompts: Doorways”
For today’s Friday photo prompt, I chose photos of people that invite you to tell their story. As writers, it’s easy to get caught up in the physical details – hair color, eye color, skin color – and lose a big portion of what makes us human. Characterization isn’t just what someone looks like – but what they do – their small gestures, habits, idiosyncrasies, the way they dress, the work they do, the things they create, the way they interact with people…Continue reading “Friday Photo Prompts”
