Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. This week’s topic is “Book Titles that Would Make Great Song Titles”. This prompt was submitted by Deanna @ A Novel Glimpse. I thought it would be fun to pair the song titles with an artist and do a little twist on this tag.
People Like Us – Marina & The Diamonds
I could see this song being sung by Marina & the Diamonds, an upbeat electro-synth-pop song about people who don’t fit into the mold, embracing weirdness and rejection of the status quo.
All the Birds In the Sky – The Cinematic Orchestra
This is definitely one for The Cinematic Orchestra, a swelling instrumental nu jazz song a la To Build a Home or Arrival of the Birds.
Deeplight – Beach House
For sure a Beach House song. A dreamy, psychedelic trip through the underwater blue. Sounds like Space Song or Take Care.
Star Daughter – The Weeknd
Consider this song the daughter of The Weeknd‘s Starboy and Stargirl interlude. A contemporary blend of soul, pop and R&B with vocals that are out of this world and a chorus you can’t get out of your head.
What If It’s Us – P!nk
Definitely a heart-rending P!nk pop ballad about lost love, that sounds like Who Knew or What About Us?
If I Stay – Dean Lewis
An emotional Dean Lewis ballad with warbling vocals and a hooky bridge, similar to Be Alright or Stay Awake.
When You Are Engulfed in Flames – Death Cab for Cutie
The emo goodness you’ve come to expect from Death Cab for Cutie, with lyrics you can sink your teeth into. A sad, longish song title, with an ultimately uplifting message. Sounds like Your Heart is an Empty Room or Someday You Will Be Loved.
This Is Where I Leave You – Panic! At The Disco
Panic! At The Disco is known for their super long song titles and this one fits right in. A baroque pop song cursing a spurned lover, led by Brendan Urie’s soaring vocals and vaudeville sensibilities. Sounds like I Write Sins Not Tragedies and A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out.
Sadie – The Lumineers
Sadie would be a twangy, folk song by The Lumineers you’d want to burn onto a CD for your crush with the same name. The Lumineers are fond of one-word titles with girl’s names in them. Sounds like Ophelia or Angela.
One Last Stop – Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift is a brilliant lyricist and One Last Stop would be no different. It would be a ballad about an ex-lover she met on the subway who things didn’t work out with. Compare to Delicate or the 1.
Have any of you done this tag? Or read any of these books? Leave me a comment and…

Until next time,

This is so great! I think you nailed the book and artist pairings 🙂

Aaaah these are all great picks and I love the thought you put into which artist would sing them! Absolutely agree with the Star Daughter and One Last Stop picks especially.
